"AUSTIN -- Elementary math students might be pleased to see quiz answers at the end of each chapter in textbooks tentatively adopted for distribution to schools next fall.
But publishers have been ordered to fix the mistake, one of 109,263 errors found in math books being considered for elementary school children and teachers. The answer key was supposed to be in the teacher edition only.
The state has given publishers until next spring to fix the errors.
The State Board of Education, reviewing the textbooks for distribution next year, found nearly five times the total number of errors for last year.
After the books are cleaned up and resubmitted to the board next spring, publishers can be fined as much as $5,000 for every error that makes it into the final editions of books shipped to Texas schools."
